About

Hello! My name is Carly. I'm a lawyer in New York and, when I'm not lawyering, a writer. I've been writing books since my age was a single digit (and I'm sure you can imagine I've not been lawyering that long). It started with Star Wars fan fiction, an obsession with mountain climbing, a hand written alternative history about Napoleon called Napoleon Must Die, and a fascination with the Voynich Manuscript. In the last two decades, I've written science fiction, historical fiction, modern-day spy-fi, fiction for adults and fiction for teens.

This blog is usually for...
  1. writing about writing,
  2. writing about thinking about writing,  (kudos if this reminds you of Andy Dwyer from Parks and Rec!)
  3. and whatever else I want to write about.
This blog is sometimes for writing about music. Not usually, but sometimes. My husband used to own a recording studio in New York and we've made some music together (here's the proof). I also like to make playlists to align with the scenes I'm writing (though I'll be the first to admit it's a little difficult to get in deep with the 17th century on this particular front). And yes, I did rap Hamilton at my sister's wedding. It was terrifying, but I survived!

Once upon a time, I ran a real blog, which I started in 2011. It was very different from this blog, but people liked it, and sometimes over 14 thousand people saw it in one day. You can probably still find it, should you choose to embark upon the quest of finding it. Good luck.

Who gives a damn about an Oxford Comma? Me. I do. I really do give a damn!

Some of my favorite authors include Diana Gabaldon, Ken Follett, Robert Ludlum, Veronica Roth, Lauren Oliver, and Maria V. Snyder.
